Solar-Powered Site Furnishings and Off-Grid Lighting: What They Are and Why More Parks Are Adding Them

Municipalities and facility managers are increasingly being asked to do more with public spaces while keeping operating costs and environmental impact in check. Solar-powered site furnishings and off-grid solar lighting are two practical responses to both pressures, and they are showing up in more parks and public spaces across Canada and the United States for good reason.

Paris Site Furnishings and Outdoor Fitness offers both, through its own solar-integrated product line and through its partnership with Stern Power Solar Systems. Here is what is available and what it can do for your next project.

Solar Benches With Integrated Charging Stations

Paris Site Furnishings offers solar-powered benches with built-in charging stations, allowing people to charge their devices while they sit. The solar panel collects energy that powers the charging function, requiring no connection to an electrical grid.

For parks, campuses, transit areas, and outdoor gathering spaces, this is a practical and visible amenity that encourages people to stay longer and engage more meaningfully with the space. It signals that the organization managing the space is thinking ahead, and it delivers a function people genuinely use.

Stern Power Solar Systems: Off-Grid Lighting for Parks and Public Spaces

Paris Site Furnishings works with Stern Power Solar Systems to bring advanced off-grid solar lighting to parks, recreation areas, pathways, sports fields, and public spaces.

The Stern Power Solar System Power Pole is a trench-free, off-grid solar lighting solution available in three configurations to suit different site requirements. The 16-foot single LED model delivers up to 5,000 lumens. The 24-foot single LED model reaches up to 10,500 lumens. The 33-foot dual LED model provides up to 20,100 lumens for larger areas requiring stronger illumination.

All configurations are powered by vertical flexible solar panels and heated lithium iron phosphate batteries, with a single charge lasting up to five days. The system is built from rust-resistant galvanized steel and aluminum, features a snow-free panel design built for Canadian conditions, and includes a cloud interface for remote monitoring and control. For sites that require it, the Power Pole can also be configured with emergency USB charging ports, satellite IoT surveillance, and weather monitoring capabilities.

Installation is trench-free, which eliminates the permitting, trenching, and electrical infrastructure costs that make traditional lighting prohibitively expensive in many locations. This opens up areas like unserviced baseball diamonds, soccer fields, conservation zones, trail systems, and remote recreational areas that would otherwise go without lighting entirely.

Stern Power Solar Systems carries a 10-year warranty on the pole, panels, and lights.

The Infrastructure Advantage

The most significant practical benefit of both solar benches and solar lighting poles is that they do not require traditional electrical infrastructure. For parks departments and municipal planners, this removes one of the most significant barriers to improving public spaces in underserviced or remote locations, without the cost, permitting complexity, or timeline that a grid connection requires.
